BUILDING EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN & GIRLS

Payton joins the Milestone Makers cohort as the founder and Executive Director of S H E | Style Her Empowered. S H E continues to improve access to education for girls and create employment opportunities for women in Togo, Africa.

As an undergratuate student, Payton had the opportunity to travel to Togo, where she learned that students were outgrowing their required school uniforms part-way through the school year.

Inspired to break down barriers created by poverty that girls face, Payton created a team to design an alternative: the S H E uniform, a zero-waste school uniform that grows up to six sizes and a foot in length. S H E  also reuses 100% of the fabric waste from production to make reusable menstrual pads for girls to ensure that hygiene doesn't get in the way of getting an education.

Winner of the Idaho Entrepreneur Challenge, the Idaho Pitch competition, and the Northwest Entrepreneur Challenge, Payton raised thousands of dollars in seed-funding to launch her organization in 2017. Payton was recently selected for the Pursuit Entrepreneur Program through Because International, the organization behind the Shoe that Grows.

While launching her company, she also earned a bachelor's degree in Marketing from the University of Idaho.
